The Russian Federation proposes to engage Syrian Kurds in the negotiation process on Syria. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Alexey Meshkov.
The official said that Moscow stands for a settlement involving the widest possible circle of the Syrian opposition. According to him, the Kurds, together with government forces, bear the brunt of the fighting against the «Islamic state».
«The Kurds, of course, should not be excluded from this process. As from collective efforts to combat ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, where they are given the capacity to play a significant role in countering the terrorist threat,» said Sacks.
Russia’s support of the Kurds seeking to establish their own state, will further complicate relations between Moscow and Ankara. From the point of view of the government of Turkey to oppose ISIS Kurdish militia fighters associated with the PKK, which Turkey considers a terrorist group.
