Ukrainian courts were convicted of treason and desertion of Russian soldiers Maxim Odintsov and Alexander Baranov, who formerly served in the APU, and sentenced them to long prison terms. On Tuesday, February 13, told RIA Novosti lawyer Valentin Rybin.
«The Podolsk district court of Kiev recognized Baranova guilty, he was sentenced to a 13 years in prison, now we got the copy of the verdict. We have a month to appeal,» said Rybin.
According to him, Darnitskiy district court of Kiev sentenced Odintsova to 14 years in prison.
Protection is considering filing an appeal, the attorney said.
The security service of Ukraine detained Baranov and Odintsova in the Kherson region on the border with the Crimea in November 2016. According to the SBU, they were arrested while crossing the border. It was noted that the detained deserters who violated the oath and after the annexation of the Crimea entered the service in the Russian army.
The Russian side claimed that the SBU through nominees lured Maxim Odintsov ensign and the younger Sergeant of contract service Alexander Baranov to the checkpoint «Dzhankoi», ostensibly to transfer them certified documents confirming higher education in universities of Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the detention of the military personnel «treachery».
