Over the last four months, Saudi authorities deported nearly 40,000 citizens of Pakistan. The main reason for the expulsion, according to a source in the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Kingdom, was suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities.
Many of the deportees were involved in strikes in the oil industry. The reason of strikes of steel delays and failure to pay wages due to the decline in energy prices.
It is also reported that from 2012 to 2015 from Saudi Arabia were deported 243.000 citizens of Pakistan. In total, the Kingdom is around 900,000 Pakistani migrant workers employed mainly in construction, oil industry and the household.
According to the census held in Saudi Arabia in 2010, foreign workers account for 8.5 million of the 27 million inhabitants of the Kingdom. Along with Pakistan, the most widespread are communities of citizens of India and the Philippines.
