A group of young Muslim women from Germany who came to Poland to study the history of the Holocaust, was not allowed in the Lublin synagogue «Hahama Lublin yeshiva». They say that the reason for the refusal was the traditional Muslim clothing, particularly the hijab.
The Jewish community of Lublin rejects these accusations, her representatives claim published on their page in social network Facebook statement that the property where the synagogue was rented to one of the European football teams.
Polish press writes that the group from Germany was invited instead to visit the synagogue, the Jewish cemetery of the XVI century and handed the keys to the cemetery gate.
Themselves Muslim said that on June 21, they visited the memorial complex «Majdanek», located on the territory of the former death camp. During this visit, one of the residents of the city spat in their direction, while others insulted them verbally and refused to sell water at a local store. The police, in their words, did not investigate the incident.
A press-the Secretary of city Council Andrzej Fijolek commented on the situation, saying in an interview Interia Fakty that the police simply did not understand that told girls they were interrupted by the city noise and the language barrier. He also noted that Muslim women have not filed formal complaints to the police, and thus no violations were recorded.
Girl in question is the offspring of the families of Muslim immigrants living in Berlin. They came to Poland to study the Holocaust in the framework of the visit to łódź, Warsaw and Lublin.
The head of the city Council of Lublin Krzysztof żuk has condemned «racist» behavior of citizens and promised to do everything in his power to improve the city’s image in the eyes of foreign guests. This case took to investigate the local Ombudsman.
