Brisk walking in the countryside or along the beach is included in the long list of recommendations to improve the mood, and the physicians are advised to leave the city to improve physical and mental health.
However, the results of a new study conducted at the University of Warwick, beautiful urban architecture and the sandy shore of the river have the same impact on the level of health and happiness, reports the Telegraph.
Exploring the perception 212.000 photos of different landscapes in the UK, the researchers found that the areas that were rated as the most picturesque, often had nothing to do with green areas. Scientists came to the conclusion that the beauty of the environment provides not only the presence of green spaces: scenic shots also had a lot of grey, brown and blue colors.
Comparing these estimates with data on the health of 1.5 million Britons living in these areas, the researchers found that feelings of health and happiness improves the unity of architecture and design, not only the presence of parks and trees.
So, walk past the Cathedral or monument may be no less useful than in rural areas, conclude the experts.
