In the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science published the results of research scientists from the University of Toronto (Canada), which was able to calculate what the weight of the person makes it attractive, reports British newspaper the Telegraph.
For the experiment, scientists chose images of faces, because the face reflects the body mass index (BMI) and is a reliable indicator of health. According to the researchers, the fullness of the face is often associated with a weakened immune system, problems in the cardiovascular system and respiratory infections, and even a small weight loss can improve health.
Scientists have compiled a set of images of faces of men and women 20-40 years with a gradual increase of body weight and asked respondents to choose from pairs of randomly selected images the one which had great weight.
It turned out that the threshold at which participants notice a change in body weight is 1.33 kg/sq m. After that, the researchers tried to determine the threshold at which the variation of the fullness of the face affect perceptions of attractiveness.
They found that in order to look more attractive, a woman of average height you need to lose weight 6.3 kg, and the man – 8.2 kg According to the researchers, the attractiveness of women depends largely on body mass, than the attractiveness of men: this means the fairer sex rather smaller changes in weight.
