Scientists have discovered that ocean sea salt, so beloved by chefs around the world, contains tiny plastic particles. Plastic has been found in sea salt sold in the UK, Europe, USA and China. This confirms that the plastic waste entering the oceans, invariably get into the food, writes the Daily Mail.
In addition, earlier this year, researchers from France, the UK and Malaysia have tested 17 types of salt from eight countries (Australia, France, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal and South Africa). The result showed that 16 of them contained micro-particles of plastic: 41,6% were plastic polymers, the 23.6% pigments plastics 5,5% consisted of amorphous carbon, and 29.1% could not be determined.
But researchers from Plymouth University found that over one-third of fish caught in the English channel, contains plastic particles.
Scientists believe that the cause of ocean pollution are disposable containers, particularly plastic bottles.
According to scientists, plastic, once at sea, it becomes a magnet for toxins and contaminants. However, there is no study on plastic particles that enter the body, on human health.
