Thursday, 4 February, district court in Jerusalem has announced the conviction of two minors found guilty in the murder of Arab teenager Muhammad Abu Dhara.
17-year-old boy, who according to the court, was directly involved in the murder of a teenager, sentenced to life imprisonment and in addition to three years in prison. 16-year-old convict sentenced to 21 years in prison. In addition, the criminals will pay the family of the victim for compensation in the amount of 60 thousand shekels.
The names of prisoners remains prohibited.
Previously, the court held that the main accused, 29-year-old Yosef Haim Ben-David, a resident of the settlement of Adam, made of his alleged actions. However, based on the opinion of psychiatrists, the judge ruled that the accused cannot be currently convicted. In recent weeks the lawyers of Ben David has presented to court the conclusion of psychiatrists, according to which their client was insane at the time of the crime. Next week the court will take a decision in the case of Ben-David.
16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir was killed on 2 July 2014. His murder was committed in retaliation for the killing by terrorists of Hamas by the Israelis Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaera and he ifrah. Police later detained three suspects in murder of Arab teen. The trial began in September 2014.
According to the indictment, wanting to avenge the murder of the three youths, criminals had abducted Muhammad Abu Dhara. They took him to the Jerusalem forest, on the way was beaten until he lost consciousness, and then poured a flammable liquid and set on fire. After that, the attackers left the scene.
When the police found the corpse of a teenager, established two research groups: one was checking the version of the murder on criminal grounds, the second on national.
Despite the fact that the recordings of the cameras located along the route of the kidnappers, wasn’t able to see the number and color of the car, as well as the faces of the kidnappers, investigators police and the Israel security Agency was able to identify the suspect vehicle and find it in one of the suburbs of Jerusalem.
All the police detained six suspects, but found that three of them — two adults and one juvenile — were not involved in the crime, and only learned about it after the fact.
Muhammad Abu Khdeir was officially recognized as a victim of a terrorist attack within a few days after a suspect in his murder indictment. This decision was made by a special Commission of the Ministry of defence.
It is noted that a day before killing Abu Dhara the accused tried to abduct seven year old Arab child in a quarter of Beit Hanina (not the North-East of Jerusalem), but this attempt was unsuccessful.
