Baghdad Jalaladin theologian Sheikh al-Saghir dedicated his last sermon to the economic crisis in Iraq. In the opinion of the religious authority, every Iraqi citizen must contribute to the economic recovery. Sheikh suggested to start with chocolate.
«Brethren, we can do without chocolate bars. I urge you to reduce costs, because the money saved will need tomorrow,» said the preacher, adding that the effort, every family can cut costs by 70%.
After the recording of the sermons was published on the Internet, the Sheikh became the object of ridicule. Well-known journalist Nabil Jassim, one of the leaders of anti-corruption performances of recent times, wrote their own appeal.
«Your Excellency, for what you condemn us to such deprivation? Chocolate bars is an important part of our diet. We did not eat them neither in the 80s nor in the 90s. And that then our nation has prospered?» — ironically by a journalist.
Other commentators note that the reason for the plight of Iraqis – not chocolate, and many privileges those in power. Sheikh Jalaludin quickly «renamed» in Shokoladkina.
