Deputy speaker of the Knesset, the Deputy Tali Ploskova («Kulan»), as part of the coalition discipline to support the controversial «law shopping» in the first reading, said that in the second and third readings it will vote against.
«I voted in the first reading for the support of the law on the operation of the stores, notwithstanding a wave of criticism on the basis that the act does not change the status quo. The adoption of the law may not lead to closure of existing today stores, including gas stations – that it was based on my position, explained Ploskova. – But most importantly – discussed the possibility that the law will be amended that even if the Minister will argue against opening businesses on Saturday, his decision may be amended by a decision of the Commission on employment, welfare and social security. However, this amendment was not accepted, which made me further support of this law is impossible.»
Tali Ploscowe explained that as a Jew, she considers the Sabbath an important and valuable asset of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, but not ready to accept religious coercion, which only reinforces the split between religious and secular populations of Israel.
