The Islamic revolutionary guard corps (IRGC) called provocation warning shots of a U.S. Navy ship in the direction of the Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf, reports channel Press TV.
As stated in the IRGC, the incident occurred in the Northern Gulf, an American ship approached the warship of the IRGC, which conducted patrols in international waters and fired twice into the air «to provoke and intimidate». Iranian ship did not pay attention to the «provocative and unprofessional» move by the U.S. military and continued its mission, RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier, CNN reported that a us warship fired warning shots in the direction of the Iranian boats approached him less than 150 meters.
According to the U.S. Department of defense, the Iranian vessel did not respond to warnings from the American ship, including attempts to establish radio communication, flares and sound signals.
A source at the Pentagon told CNN, warning that the fire was to avoid a collision.
The us military said that after the warning shots the Iranian ship «stopped provocative actions but remained in the area even a few hours.»
