Thursday, March 1, the airline «El al» has directed to the International air transport Association (IATA) official letter with a request to help her get permission to fly in the airspace of Saudi Arabia.
«El al» tries to compete with airline Air India which is going to operate flights between India and Israel. The ability to fly over the territory of Saudi Arabia will allow Air India to significantly reduce the flight time between tel Aviv and new Delhi.
The letter notes that «El al» appealed on this issue to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Recall that Air India plans on March 18 to begin flights to Israel through the airspace of Saudi Arabia. The flight will be 5.5 hours versus 8.5 hours on the aircraft «El al», forced to fly around the Arab countries. It should also be noted that the Saudi Arabian authorities officially deny that it had given Air India the right to fly to Israel using their airspace.
On February 15 the Chairman of the General Federation of trade unions («Histadrut»), AVI Nissenkorn gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and transport Minister Yisrael Katz a letter demanding «to stop the practice of unfair competition from foreign airlines and discrimination of Israeli airlines.»
Nissenkorn demanded to cancel the granting Israel a license for Air India to carry out flights between new Delhi and tel Aviv route, which runs through the airspace of Saudi Arabia, while Israeli airlines do not have this possibility.
