The Belgian authorities have established the identity of the terrorist who on June 20 at the Central station of Brussels detonated an explosive device. The suspect was known to police, but not suspected of having links with terrorists and involvement in terrorist activities.
The terrorist, identified as 36-year-old native of Morocco, who lived in the capital district of Molenbeek, where also lived the jihadists staged the attack in Brussels in March last year.
Early on the morning of 21 June, the Brussels police made in this area, a series of searches.
We will remind, on Tuesday evening, June 20, at the Central station of Brussels, near cash registers, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device when he tried to approach law enforcement officers. Before the explosion, the Belgian media reports, the terrorist shouted «Allah Akbar».
The terrorist opened fire.
Later from the received wounds the man has died in hospital.
No one, except the terrorist, was not injured.
In connection with this incident was suspended the movement of trains in Brussels. Police evacuated citizens from the Central station, the Grand place and several of the nearby streets.
After explosion on a scene there was a small fire, but firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the fire.
The Belgian Prosecutor’s office qualified the incident as a terrorist attack. The investigation is being conducted.
