The attack in the Sinai Peninsula killed an Egyptian soldier, four others injured.
According to local media, the evening of Tuesday, April 18, terrorists fired at a checkpoint near the monastery of St. Catherine, in the Central part of the Peninsula.
Responsibility for attack was assumed by the terrorist group «Islamic state».
St. Catherine’s monastery is one of the oldest continually operating Christian monasteries in the world. In 2002 the monastery complex was included in the list of world heritage of UNESCO.
