On Friday, July 28, in Hamburg, the North-Eastern district of Hamburg, the attacker, armed with a kitchen knife, attacked several people in one of supermarkets of the Edeka retail chain. The attack in the store one person (50-year-old man) died, five of them (a woman and four men) were wounded, one of the injured is in serious condition.
According to witnesses of the attack, an armed attacker shouted «Allah Akbar!».
The attacker tried to escape, ran from the store, however, chased after him a few passers-by who, in the end, resulted in the apprehension of the offender and transfer him to the police. During detention the offender wounded one man and caused minor injuries to himself.
As of Saturday morning, July 29, the identity and nationality of the perpetrator were not disclosed, however, according to German media, we are talking about Islamist, previously known to the police.
German newspaper Bild reported that the police raided the shelter for refugees, where the abuser lived. Neighbors say that the young man who worked at home the dentist, always behaved politely and quietly, but from time to time, under the influence of drugs, «shouted Islamist slogans.» Police reported that the detainee is a 26-year-old native of the UAE who came to Hamburg in 2015.
According to the source referenced by the newspaper Tagesspiegel, the assailant is a Palestinian born in 1991, Ahmad al H., born in Saudi Arabia and living in Hamburg as a refugee.
The police qualified the attack as a terrorist attack, but noted that the initial data on the possible robbery was not confirmed. As for the detainee, he could not be deported because he has no documents.
