The Board of Ministers on legislation approved on Sunday, June 18, the bill of Knesset member Yifat Shasha-Biton («Kulan») and Yaakov Margi (SHAS) on the extension of state control over the work of extended day groups («cuareim»). The bill ensures the improved quality of services and prohibits to raise prices.
In accordance with a legislative initiative, the number of children in the group day care may not exceed 35 persons, and the maximum value of the «school club» and a core set of services should be determined by the Minister of education.
The law is enforced will follow a special Supervisory body which will be established by the Ministry of education. For the collection of parents fees in excess of allowed by the Minister of education high, the offender faces a fine in the amount of 50 thousand shekels. The law will apply to all day-care centers that receive any support from the state, including those that do not belong to the local authorities.
The press service of the party «Kulanu» notes that the bill will be combined with a similar legislative initiative submitted by the Deputy Yifat Shasha-Biton in November last year for further approval by the Knesset.
According to Yifat Shasha-Biton, the first law against exorbitant levies for children’s education provides significant penalties for its violation, which will be considered a criminal offense.
