The Ministry of industry and trade of Russia has developed a bill to toughen penalties for smuggling of goods of light industry, reported on Wednesday, December 30, the website of radio «Liberty».
According to the document posted on the portal of projects of normative acts, the smuggling of consumer goods worth more than 250 thousand rubles on the territory of the countries of the Eurasian economic Union, which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, is punishable by fines, compulsory works or imprisonment for the term from one year to 12 years.
Self the smuggling faces a fine of up to one million rubles or a prison term of up to five years. For officials the penalty will be up to seven years in prison with the same penalty. Members of organized groups of smugglers proposed to punish with a prison term from 7 to 12 years with a fine up to two million rubles.
Amendments to the act state that seized at the border products will be destroyed.
The bill was submitted to public debate, which will last until March 10.
