Last Monday, the canadian Parliament approved a bill officially condemning the BDS movement, which calls for the boycott of Israel. For this bill voted 229 MPs voted against only 51.
This bill was viswanath last week by the Conservative party and supported by the then ruling Liberal edition of CIJ News.
Under this law, the government of Canada «condemns any attempts by canadian organizations, groups and individuals to promote the idea of BDS – as in the country, and abroad».
The resolution also States that Canada and Israel «have a long history of friendship and economic and diplomatic cooperation».
Last week the foreign Minister of Canada, Stephane Dion said that the world will not benefit from the boycott of Israel, but will deprive themselves of talented Israeli developments.
In response to this decision, the national Council of Canada on relations with the Arabs stated that this move «runs counter to the spirit of freedom of expression enshrined in the Charter of Canada on freedom of expression», since BDS is a «nonviolent campaign, encouraging Israel to abide by international law».
