Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors refuses to develop SUV Pajero new generation. On this edition of Automotive News reported the company’s President Osamu Masuko.
According to Masuko, Mitsubishi plans exclude the creation of new Pajero, as well as any other full-size SUV. This decision is motivated by a desire to improve overall fuel efficiency across the model lineup, as well as the need to comply with tightening limits, the level of harmful emissions, writes Motor.ru.
The company intends to concentrate on making more compact cars. In particular, in 2017, the Mitsubishi will be a small crossover, which will take place between ASX and the Outlander.
In addition, Masuko confirmed that the company does not intend to independently develop the successor of the Lancer and Galant models due to lack of funds. In 2013, the Japanese planned to conclude an agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance providing for the joint establishment of two new sedans, but the parties have not agreed about the partnership.
Finally, due to the optimization of resources spent on research objectives, in Mitsubishi decided to abandon the development of compact electric vehicle i-MiEV next generation.
