Saturday, August 5, Constituent Assembly of Venezuela unanimously voted for the resignation of the General Prosecutor Luisa Ortega, said earlier about the rigged elections to the Assembly.
A few hours earlier the Prosecutor General’s office in Caracas was surrounded by government security forces. Ortega called these actions «the siege».
Ortega, a prominent opponent of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, demanded the court to order temporary removal of the inauguration of the Constituent Assembly.
Recall, July 30, in Venezuela, elections were held for the National constitutional Assembly. A new Constituent Assembly empowered to rewrite the Constitution and deprive of power the Congress controlled by the opposition.
The Venezuelan opposition has refused to recognize the election results and rioted. The international community has subjected to criticism the elections. The US imposed sanctions against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
