The district court in Beersheba ordered to amend the umbrella agreement to build 30 thousand housing units in Ashdod, and ordered the mayor to pay the plaintiffs court costs in the amount of 20 thousand shekels.
The plaintiffs, 200 secular residents of Ashdod, demanded to cancel the paragraph of the agreement providing for the allocation of 25% of apartments for marketing exclusively among the Jewish population of ultra-Orthodox («haredim»).
Judge Yael Raz-Levi decided that the municipality must re-consideration of the umbrella agreement the municipal Council.
Note that on the eve of the municipal elections in Ashdod has become a place of active political struggle between ultra-Orthodox and secular population of the city.
