The Tver district court of Moscow has sentenced to three and a half years in a penal colony, the investigative Committee Alexander Sokolov, who is accused of organizing activities of an extremist organization.
About it reports on Thursday, August 10, the website of the TV channel «Rain» with reference to its own correspondent in the courtroom.
The court also sentenced Sokolov to the restriction of liberty for a term of 1 year. The penalty is calculated from the moment of detention – July 28, 2015.
In addition to Sokolov about the case are three figures: former editor of newspaper «Duel» Yury Mukhin, and their supporters Valery Parfenov and Cyril Barabash.
According to investigators, the defendants continued to participate in the organization of the «army of the will of the people», which in 2010 Mosgorsud banned as extremist.
They are charged under article 282.2 of the criminal code – the continuing activities of banned extremist organizations. The prosecution alleges that the defendants prohibited renamed the organization «the Army will of the people» the initiative group for the referendum «For the responsible authority» for evaluating the activity of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and others from the leadership of the country.
The Prosecutor demanded for the defendant to four years in a General regime colony. The publication notes that the maximum period for the second part of article 282 of the criminal code is six years of imprisonment, and Sokolov in custody since July 2015.
In July this year the appeal in support of Sokolov signed 282 of the Russian journalists. The defendant denies his guilt and binds the prosecution of their activities: while working at RBC, he was investigating the theft at the cosmodrome «East» and the state Corporation «rosteh», «RUSNANO», «Rosatom» and «Olympstroy» and has published data on incomes of officials.
