Economic Committee of the Knesset by seven votes against six voted for a resolution recommending to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu not to use the paragraph 52 of the law on the Antimonopoly office for approval of the gas agreement.
Recall that this paragraph allows you to bypass the powers of the Director of the antitrust authorities for reasons of national security.
The right to use this paragraph has the Minister of economy, whose duties are currently performed by Netanyahu after the departure of Aryeh Deri.
It should be noted that the Commission’s resolution in this case is a recommendation, and that Netanyahu has already indicated that he will not heed the voice of the Knesset.
It is expected that immediately after the decision of Netanyahu to use the paragraph 52 opponents of the gas agreement will immediately appeal to the High court of justice.
Previously a lawsuit in the high court of appeals on this issue has already been dismissed by the court as premature.
According to experts, the new suit will eventually be dismissed, as earlier, the high court of appeals has repeatedly refused to intervene in the situation on the gas market (Commission Sheshinski and Tzemach).
