The Egyptian Parliament voted for the ratification of the Treaty on the demarcation of the Maritime border with Saudi Arabia. The agreement, signed in 2016, provides for the transfer of the Kingdom of the Islands of Sanafir and the Tyrant in the Red sea.
Earlier the agreement was approved by the parliamentary Commission on legislation and parliamentary Committee on security issues. For entry into force requires only the signature of President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi.
The agreement was outraged wide layers of Egyptian society, and became the subject of litigation. The Supreme administrative court made the decision according to which Sanafir and the Tyrant will remain Egyptian.
The refusal of Egypt from the agreement caused a sharp cooling of relations with Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom has frozen the financial aid to Cairo in the amount of several billion dollars.
