The results of the vote of the electoral College of the United States, held on Monday, December 19, confirmed the victory of Donald trump on the us presidential elections.
Trump received 304 electoral votes 270 of 538 when necessary, while Hillary Clinton – 227 electoral votes.
As a rule, the vote in the electoral College, held on the 41st day after the nationwide vote is a formality. Tradition, and in some cases state law, requires the electors to vote for the candidate of his party. However, in light of the fact that Clinton bypassed trump a few million votes, and in the light of the unprecedented pressure on the electors who campaigned to vote against trump against the will of their constituencies, this vote had real weight. Despite the agitation, according to The New York Times, only two electors-Republican voted against trump while the four electors-Democrats voted against Clinton.
The results of the presidential elections will be officially announced on 6 January at a special session of Congress.
Recall that the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton lost to Republican Donald Trump for the number of electoral votes, but won a direct vote gap between Clinton and trump was more than 2.8 million votes in favor of Clinton, or 2.1% of the electorate.
