The European Union on Friday, August 4, will decide on the extension of sanctions against Russia in connection with the supply of the Crimea turbines of the German company Siemens to bypass the sanctions, which gets supply of European equipment in the annexed Peninsula. About it reports Reuters with reference to two European diplomats.
Last month Germany offered in connection with the scandal with Siemens to extend the sanctions «black list» and make it four more Russian officials, in particular officials of the energy Ministry and three Russian companies, including the company «Tekhnopromexport».
We will remind, the Russian company «Tekhnopromexport» acquired from the German company Siemens four gas turbines, ostensibly for installation in Tyumen. In early July, the leadership of Siemens said that two of the four turbines were delivered in the Crimea against the will and without the knowledge of management of the company. July 12, Siemens filed a lawsuit against «Technopromexport», demanding the return of the turbine to the destination equipment.
A few days later, sources of the news Agency Reuters reported that in the port of Feodosia was delivered two new gas turbines – presumably, the German company Siemens. Sources of information the Agency had no confirmation that is delivered to Feodosia do turbine produced by Siemens, however, argued that the form and size of equipment fit the description of the German turbines.
Press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov has repeatedly stated that the turbines for the Crimea made in Russia.
19 June 2017 the Council of the EU extended for another year, until 23 June 2018, the sanctions in respect of Crimea «in connection with the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol with Russia.»
Approved by the EU, restrictions apply to citizens and companies of EU countries. In particular, under sanctions misses the import of the EU energy equipment.
The sanctions against Crimea were imposed by the EU after the annexation of the Peninsula by Russia in March 2014.
