The Nazareth district court convicted the 22-year-old Inon Reuveni in the arson of the Church of the Multiplication of loaves and fishes in Capernaum. Detained together with him Yehuda Asraf was acquitted by the court.
Inon Reuveni convicted of the arson that was committed in aggravating circumstances, and criminal conspiracy and other offences.
From the materials of the court, it follows that the Church arson was thought out in every detail in advance, especially for the one of the accused bought a Subaru, which then was captured by one of the surveillance cameras in the Church.
Nana10 website notes that the investigating authorities failed to prove that Yehuda Asraf at the time of purchase of the car knew that it was used by arsonists, so Asraf was acquitted.
The fire in the Catholic Church of Multiplication of loaves and fishes in Capernaum (Tabgha, Kfar Nachum) took place on 18th June 2015. The fire easily hurt the two people who were poisoned by carbon monoxide. Fire destroyed the archives and offices of the Church, a prayer hall was damaged. On the walls of the building were written excerpts from Jewish prayers.
A few months later, after the arson, the Israeli media reported that the Church received compensation under the law on payments to victims of enemy actions. This decision was taken by the Deputy legal adviser to the government on tax and economic Affairs AVI Licht.
