The Minister of foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström during the meeting of the Swedish Parliament accused Israel of «disproportionate» response to terror, because of what «on the Palestinian side much more victims».
Barack Ravid writes in ha’aretz, 4 December in the Swedish Parliament discussed foreign policy. Three MPs told the Minister that Stockholm had taken a very unbalanced position against Israel and obviously sided with the Palestinians.
Wallström said in response that condemns every terror, including attacks by Palestinians against Israelis and recognizes Israel’s right to defend itself but the Israeli response «should not be like extrajudicial execution» or lead to such a large number of casualties on the Palestinian side.
Israel’s Ambassador to Sweden Isaac Bachman-Lavi said, commenting on Wallström’s statement that the Israeli moral standards in the fight against terror at least not lower than in other Western countries who are forced to fight the same threat. He stressed that if the terrorists and their instigators will undergo resolute and unconditional condemnation, the need for self-defense will disappear.
Earlier, Margot Wallström made the link between the terrorist attacks in Paris and the «desperate situation of the Palestinians». Swedish Ambassador Carl Magnus was summoned for clarification in the Israeli foreign Ministry.
