A Thai court sentenced the former Prime Minister of the country Ingly the Shinawatra in August fled the country, to five years in prison, according to France24.
Charges of negligence were brought against Ingly the Shinawatra in February 2015 in connection with the so-called «rice Scam» – the unsuccessful realization of the state program of assistance to producers of rice, causing the country huge losses.
In early may 2014, the constitutional court of Thailand acknowledged Ingly the Shinawatra guilty of violating the Constitution of Thailand and ruled that the Shinawatra should be removed from office by the Prime Minister.
Soon after the court decision, the government of Shinawatra was overthrown by the military. The Shinawatra banned five years of politics.
