A member of the ruling coalition of the Social democratic party of Germany (SPD) announced the intention to block the leasing of drones Heron TP production «the Israeli aviation industry» (IAI), according to Reuters.
The head of the SPD faction in the Bundestag Thomas Opperman said that his party is not against the acquisition of UAVs abroad, but is against leasing Israeli drones, which can be used not only for reconnaissance but also for missile strikes on targets in Afghanistan and Mali, where in the framework of the international contingents serve in the German military.
The army command and the Ministry of defence of Germany sharply criticized the leadership of the SPD for actions that may jeopardize the safety of German soldiers.
According to the agreement between Germany and Israel, UAV Heron TP was to provide the German military in 2018 for a period of seven years, while their management was planned from the base of the IDF air force the German personnel who will be trained.
