Wednesday, December 30, the government approved a five-year programme for the development of the Arab sector at a cost of 15 billion shekels. The program was developed by the Minister for social equality by Gila gamli’el, head of government Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Moshe Kachanom.
The discussion of this program was devoted to a special session of the Cabinet of Ministers. It was the third attempt to approve the project, after previous discussions in Sunday and this morning, stalled.
The website of the newspaper Haaretz notes that the program was approved after it minor changes were made. The project involves the development of infrastructure in Arab localities, includes a program for the integration of the Arab sector in the labor market and encourages Arab boys and girls to perform alternative service in the army.
Ayman Ude, the leader of the «United Arab list», said that the program was approved due to protests held in the Arab sector.
The leader of the party Yisrael Beiteinu Avigdor Lieberman has accused the government of collusion with the «United Arab list». According to Lieberman, «in a time when the terrorist organization «Islamic state» has threatened to destroy Israel, the government strengthens the position of the «United Arab list», which sets itself the same task».
