On Tuesday, July 19, the high court issued a verdict on the alimony obliged to pay the parents in case of divorce.
According to the court decision in the case of divorce parents, who have children aged between 6 and 15 years, alimony must pay both sides, not just fathers, as it exists at the moment. The amount of maintenance will be determined depending on the economic situation of both parties. Until now, only the man was required to pay alimony even in those cases where women’s income was much higher than his.
Note that the verdict applies to those cases where after a divorce sets the mode of joint custody of children. If we are talking about children under the age of six years, the obligation to pay child support remains on the man.
Citing its decision, the judges of the high Court said: «the Current situation in which the father is the only one paying the alimony, can lead to the fact that the father will be deprived of funds needed to meet the needs of the child.»
