The Israeli national Federation of trade unions («Histadrut») filed in beer shevski an employment Tribunal claim against the company «Sodastream» for the sum of 15 million shekels. The lawsuit was filed in connection with opposition from the administration to join a trade Union of employees in Rahat.
The «Histadrut» also asked the court to direct the immediate cessation of all steps taken by company management to prevent the realization of the legitimate rights of workers to Association.
The press service of the «Histadrut» reports that about 1,200 factory workers in Rahat, most of whom belong to economically weaker sectors of the population, have begun the process of unionizing in November 2016. From the very beginning and throughout this process met with resistance from the management of the enterprise. This resulted in harassment of workers, which entered into the «Histadrut». In some cases, this resistance is accompanied by violence, both verbal and physical.
In the «Histadrut» explain that the claim applied to testimonies of workers, recruited by the administration as «secret agents» and who participated in obstruction of the Association. For example, one of the recruits, the administration of «spies» told me that was the job of the authorities to create difficulties for the Chairman of the organizing Committee in the hope that one will break and will submit a letter of resignation.
Workers describe the complex mechanism of action by the administration, which was hired to spy on employees of private detective firm.
In the «Histadrut» we are convinced that presented to the court evidence clearly show that the management of «Sodastream», headed by CEO Daniel Barenbojma acted contrary to precedent the decision of the court the claim to company «Pelephone», which banned any political interference in the process of unification of workers.
The Chairman of the «Histadrut» AVI Nissenkorn promised that the trade Union Federation will not allow anyone from employers to violate workers ‘ rights, including their right to join a trade Union.
