Interior Minister Aryeh Deri approved criteria for granting official status to refugees from Darfur.
According to the newspaper «Haaretz», the status of temporary resident to receive refugees aged 45 years and older, who arrived in Israel before October 2011, filed a petition for refugee status and have not committed criminal offences or crimes against state security.
According to the newspaper, under these criteria fall about 180 people.
This is the first in the last 10 years in the case of granting Israel’s refugee status significant group of people.
According to the Department of population registration and migration, in Israel there are about 2.800 refugees from Darfur, of which about 2,300 filed an application for status in Israel.
The status of temporary resident provides to its owner all the social rights, including the right to work, right to state medical insurance, etc., as well as the right to «Lesse passe», allowing to leave the country and return to it.
