The Minister of defence of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Farmers said that on 27 July the launch of the carrier rocket «Simorg» was successful. About it RIA Novosti reported, citing Iranian media.
«We do not expect from US that they will confirm the fact of successful tests,» — said the Minister, commenting on reports by American sources, according to which tests of the rocket have been unsuccessful.
According to the TV channel IRINN, the missile was launched from the new cosmodrome named after the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini. It is designed to orbit satellites, and capable of delivering satellites weighing up to 250 kg into orbit to 50 km.
However, the United States, Israel and other countries believe that the space program of Iran is nothing more than a disguise of the development of Intercontinental ballistic missiles. Missile development is not prohibited by the Vienna agreements, however, fall under the UN resolutions.
