Jordan’s king Abdullah II received a delegation of Muslim and Christian communities of Jerusalem. The monarch said he believes protection of the Jerusalem shrines their sacred duty.
Abdullah expressed support for the principle of «Two States for two peoples» and called for the speedy proclamation of an independent Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem. He said that he would continue to support the Jerusalemites in the struggle against the occupation.
The monarch accused Israel of trying to disrupt the status quo and opposed the American plan to transfer to Jerusalem the Embassy in Israel.
According to the newspaper Jordan Times, the delegation members thanked the king for funding restoration in the Church of the Holy sepulcher the Edicule. They noted that the last time work was carried out here 200 years ago.
The head of the Waqf, Sheikh Abdulazim Salhab said that the al-Aqsa mosque became the banner around which the Jerusalemites unite to combat with the ongoing 50 years of Israeli occupation.
