The financial Commission and the Commission of the Knesset on issues of employment and social security approved the section of the law on the regulation of the national economy, providing for increased allowances to the subsistence minimum for pensioners who receive only a retirement benefit («alamat income»).
The paragraph, which is part of the recommendations of the Board of Alaluf against poverty, was part of coalition agreements between the parties «Likud» and «Kulan». The cost for the state budget is estimated at 550 million shekels a year.
The increase in benefits will take effect on 1 January 2016 and will apply to 189 thousand older people, of which about 110 thousand immigrants from the former Soviet Union.
After the entry into force of the paragraph the benefit amount for retiree single under the age of 70 years will increase by 177 NIS, aged 70 to 80 years of 155 shekels, above the age of 80 years – 135 NIS per month.
A Handbook for couples and also for families of pensioners, which is dependent on the minors, will grow, depending on age, 541 shekel, shekel 524 511 and NIS, respectively.
