The Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz acknowledged that the controversial «law on the Holocaust» has indeed become a source of tension in Polish-American relations, AP reported. However, Czaputowicz denied reports about the alleged impending sanctions against the official Warsaw.
Earlier media reported that the United States criticized the «law of the Holocaust», fearing that its adoption would harm freedom of speech in the country.
Recall, March 1 in Poland entered into force the law on the Institute of national remembrance. A bill introducing criminal liability for propaganda of the ideology of Ukrainian nationalists, the denial of the Volyn massacre and allegations of complicity of poles with the Nazis during the Second world war, was signed by the President of Poland on 6 February.
The law prohibits the use of the phrase «Polish death camp» when describing the concentration camps that existed on the territory of occupied Poland. Punishment will be subjected to those who try «to consciously downplay the responsibility of the real perpetrators of these crimes».
This law caused a mixed reaction in Israel. For several days prior to the approval of the law by the Polish Senate, its contents provoked an angry reaction from many Israeli politicians, including the Prime Minister and the President.
