The leader of the movement «Indigenous peoples of Biafra» (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu appealed to the United Nations, the European Union, the President of the United States Donald Trump, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, urging them to stop the invasion of the Nigerian army in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. This was reported by the website Ripples Nigeria.
We are talking about «the Dancing Python II», which is currently ongoing in five southeastern States. It caused tension in the country. In the state of Abia clashes between soldiers and members of the IPOB, in which people died.
Kanu said in their petition that «unarmed people, mostly representatives of the movement «Indigenous peoples of Biafra» are exposed daily to torture and murder». According to the leader of IPOB, the situation in the South-East of Nigeria calls for urgent intervention by the international community.
Recall from 30 may 1967 to 15 January 1970, in the South-East of Nigeria there was the self-proclaimed Republic of Biafra, unrecognized by the UN. Its creation led to a civil war in Nigeria. Currently, the idea of independence of Biafra has been resurrected. In the South-East of Nigeria there are two political groups advocating for the restoration of Republic of Biafra: «the Movement for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra» (leader Ralph Uwazuruike) and «Indigenous peoples of Biafra» (the leader Nnamdi Kanu).
