The head of Kurdish Autonomous region, Massoud Barzani declared readiness to negotiate with Baghdad to resolve the crisis that emerged after the referendum in which the vast majority of the participants voted for the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan. Barzani has signaled that it considers acceptable the initiative of Vice-President of Iraq, Iyad Allawi, who was in favor of peace talks with the Kurds. He stressed that he is willing to wait two years before the Declaration of independence of Iraqi Kurdistan and during this period expects to settle with Baghdad all disputed issues. However, waiting Barzani agreed only if all this time will be effective negotiations.
A referendum on Iraqi Kurdistan’s independence was held on Monday, 25 September, despite the pressure of world powers and threat to the neighbors. Almost 92% of the Iraqi Kurds voted for independence.
