Speaking on 18 July in Parliament, the Prime Minister of Lebanon Saad al-Hariri announced that the armed forces will begin operation in the area of Guru Arsaliyev, in the North-East of the country.
The operation will take place in an isolated mountainous region, where entrenched militants of various groups including the «Islamic state». According to the Prime Minister, it is carefully prepared.
Note that since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, Lebanon has accepted over a million refugees from the neighboring country. Many of them are concentrated in the Bekaa valley, which leads to conflicts.
Terrorists regularly make raids from Syria, engaging in battle with the army and police. They managed to gain a foothold around arsal – a Sunni enclave in the valley, inhabited by the majority Shiites.
