The U.S. Secretary of defense Ashton Carter acknowledged that U.S. aircraft could strike, which killed nine soldiers, Iraqi government troops.
19 December Ashton Carter on the phone expressed his condolences to the Prime Minister of Iraq Haider al-Abadi in connection with the incident.
The Minister of defence of Iraq Khalid al-Obaidi reported that on 18 December in the area of Fallujah the us air force accidentally attacked government forces. According to him, the coalition provided air support attacking Iraqi soldiers, as poor weather conditions did not allow to use the helicopters of the air force of Iraq.
The parties agreed to investigate the incident and take measures to prevent recurrence of such accidents in the future.
