Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, and Chairman of the General Federation of trade unions («Histadrut») AVI Nissenkorn after hours of negotiations about raising salaries of civil servants came to an agreement. This in the night of Wednesday, 23 December, said the representative of the «Histadrut» attorney Orna Lin.
Thus, the public sector strike, which was scheduled to start at 6 am on 23 December, cancelled.
The labour court conflict welcomed the compromise. However, the parties will continue negotiations on some details of the agreement. On the progress of negotiations, they must report to the court no later than January 3, 2016.
According to the Mako website, the agreement provides for the increase of salaries of civil servants by 7.5%, half of which will be differential – ie allowance to employees with low wages will be higher premiums to employees with a high salary.
Earlier, the management of trade unions insisted on equal pay raises all state employees by 11% within five years. The Finance Ministry, for its part, at the request of the Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon, insisted on the differential wage gap of 3-7%.
