The Ministry of justice: Council on higher education may operate in part

After a series of consultations, the Ministry of justice informed the members of the Council for higher education (MÁLAGA) that the Council will be able to operate in incomplete composition.

Recall that last week six members of the Council (representatives of universities) resigned in protest against the decision of the education Minister Naftali Bennett to dismiss the Deputy head of the MÁLAGA hagit Messer-Yaron and appoint in her stead Rebecca Wadman-Showman.

After the dismissal of six members of the total number of active Board members was reduced to 16 persons, whereas the law prescribes that the Council consisted of 19 to 25.

The Ministry of justice’s decision torpedoes the plans of the «rebels» seeking reinstatement of Messer-Yaron.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the forum of rectors of universities, rector of the «Technion» Professor Peretz Lavie, said that will help Bennett to appoint new members to replace the dismissed. At the same time the rector of the Weizmann Institute Professor Daniel Zajfman said he did not intend to recommend in MÁLAGA any of its employees.
