Monday, September 26, the municipality of tel Aviv, recalled that in public places it is forbidden to perform the rite of «kaparot» (the ritual sacrifice of a chicken in the form of redemption before the Day of judgment).
In a letter published by the municipality, stated that tel Aviv is the leading city in the field of animal rights, intends to remain so in the future. The city hall reminded that in the past the city authorities have even banned the use of animals in circus performances.
Note that these warnings are published by the municipality of tel Aviv for several years.
City Council member from SHAS Nathan Elnathan in an interview with the website «Kikar Shabbat,» declared that he agreed with the ban. In his opinion, it is not too restricts the rights of believers, since the ceremony can be made in specially designated areas, for example, in two of the synagogues, or in closed stalls in the market. He noted that he saw no need for a «kaparot» in the middle of the city, causing inconvenience to passers-by.
