The national Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia elected on Friday, March 2, the new, fourth President of the candidate from the ruling Republican party Armen Sargsyan, RIA Novosti reported.
In the vote was attended by 101 members. 90 of them voted for Sargsyan, 10 against. One ballot was declared invalid.
Sarkisian will replace on a post of President Serzh Sargsyan.
Armen Sargsyan was born on 23 June 1953 in Yerevan. He graduated from the faculty of physics and mathematics of Yerevan state University. In 1996-1997, he was the Prime Minister of Armenia. Since 2013, holds the position of Ambassador of Armenia to the UK. Was also Ambassador to the EU, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the Vatican. In 1995-96 he was the head of mission of Armenia to the EU.
