A Palestinian living in Hamburg, who on Friday attacked shoppers in one of supermarkets of the Edeka retail chain, said during questioning: he wanted to commit a suicide bombing and die as a Martyr («Shahid»).

This case is being investigated by the prosecution office specialized in combating terror. The employees of this Department reported they have no information that the detainee is a member of ISIS or another terrorist group, and that he is under the influence of radicals and is associated with other Islamists.
As previously reported, on July 28 in Hamburg, the North-Eastern district of Hamburg, the attacker, armed with a kitchen knife, attacked shoppers in one of supermarkets of the Edeka retail chain, killing 50-year-old man and five others, including one woman, were injured. The condition of one of victims is estimated by physicians as heavy. According to witnesses, the attacker was shouting «Allah Akbar!».
The attacker tried to escape, ran from the store, however, chased after him a few passers-by who detained the criminal and handed him over to police. During detention the offender wounded one man and caused minor injuries to himself.
German newspaper Bild reported that the police raided the shelter for refugees, where the abuser lived. Neighbors say that the young man who worked at home the dentist, always behaved politely and quietly, but from time to time, under the influence of drugs, «shouted Islamist slogans.» Police reported that the detainee is a 26-year-old native of the UAE who came to Hamburg in 2015.
According to the source referenced by the newspaper Tagesspiegel, the assailant was a Palestinian born in 1991, Ahmad al H., born in Saudi Arabia and living in Hamburg as a refugee.
The police qualified the attack as a terrorist attack, but noted that the version about the possible robbery was not confirmed. Press reports that the detainee can’t be deported because he has no documents.
