The scandal connected with the accusations against the interior Minister Silvan Shalom for sexual harassment, was Wednesday, 20 December, one of the main topics of discussion in the Israeli press.
In the evening of 20 December, the legal Advisor to the government Yehuda Weinstein plans to meet with police officials and discuss the statements of the women who accused Shalom of sexual harassment.
Journalists of the newspaper «Haaretz» Yaniv Kubovich, Chalons, Pulver and Almog Ben Zikri write that the police will recommend that the Weinstein to open a criminal investigation against the Minister of internal Affairs. According to journalists ha’aretz, Weinstein will be forced at least to demand to resume an audit of the actions of Shalom, which began in the spring of 2014, and to direct the police to take statements from women, accusing the Minister.
Adeto Edna and Shlomo Cesana from «Israel and Yom» join this assessment, however, emphasize with reference to the Ministry of justice that Weinstein has not yet decided on this case. Journalists write with reference to the report of the 2nd channel ITV, on December 20, two women will appeal to Weinstein with a request to ensure their anonymity in exchange for the submission of the application against Silvan Shalom to the police. If this happens, the police will be able to sue the Minister for criminal investigation, bypassing the intermediate stage of verification.
Journalists emphasize that while the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other members of the «Likud» are silent, the opposition, particularly MERETZ and the «Zionist camp» require Silvan Shalom to temporarily resign from the office of the Minister of internal Affairs. Otherwise, the opposition insists that the legal adviser to the government should instruct Netanyahu to suspend Shalom until the end of the police investigation.
So, Shelly yahimovich from the «Zionist camp» has publicly demanded from Silvan Shalom to step down from his Ministerial duties and to take the example of Inon Magala. «Inon Magal established new and important standards. He didn’t denigrate women, but pleaded guilty and resigned,» writes Yakhimovich on his page in Facebook.
Radio station Galei Tzahal leads on Sunday morning the evidence of two women, who told the journalist the adas Stiff about sexual harassment by Silvan Shalom. Head of Meretz Zehava Gal-on called Shalom in the broadcast of Galei Tzahal to resign until the investigation is completed.
Galei Tzahal reports that at least one of the women who made accusations against Shalom in the last days, did it after the wife of Minister Judy NIR Moses threatened in his Twitter to expose women accusing her husband, to public shame.
