Tuesday, October 24, the Organization of teachers announced the state of industrial conflict, which will enter into force on 8 November.
The reason for the conflict — disagreement between the organization and the ministries of education and Finance regarding the salaries of teachers.
31 December 2016 ended the term of the collective agreement signed with the teachers in 2011. Since the beginning of January the Organization of teachers is negotiating with the Ministry of Finance. The meetings are held every few weeks.
«The Finance Ministry intentionally creates red tape,» says the organization’s Chairman Ran Erez. He also said that the Finance Ministry’s proposals humiliate teachers. Thus, the Agency proposed to increase the salary for teachers with more seniority at 60 shekels a year.
According to Erez, in fact, the Agency intends to increase the salaries of new teachers by raising salaries for teachers with experience. He said that the Agency ignores other requirements of the organization concerning conditions of work of teachers.
The organization intends to demand a significant salary increase and better working conditions. Erez noted that the salary of teachers in Israel is 40% lower than in the countries belonging to the Organization for economic cooperation and development (OECD).
He also reported that the Israeli education system lacks teachers, and many teachers are forced to work for half or even two bets.
