Sunday, February 12, the Ministerial Committee on legislation approved a new draft law «on the muezzins», developed by deputies of Mordechai Jogeum («Bytes Yehudi») and David Bitanem («Likud»).
In the new edition of the law, concerning not only mosques, but also all the institutions of worship located in residential areas, contains a ban on the amplification equipment in the night hours, between 23:00 and 7:00.
The law says that in the daytime amplifiers can be used, however, the noise level must not exceed standards set in the legislation.
Radio station «Reshet bet» reports that the violation of the law envisages a fine in the amount from 5,000 to 10,000 shekels.
The newspaper «Haaretz» draws attention to the fact that the new law does not apply to the siren announcing the beginning of Shabbat.
The law will be submitted to the vote of the Knesset on Wednesday, February 15.
The leader of the «United Arab list» Ayman Udeh said that the law was adopted solely in order to «mark the Israeli Arabs as the enemy within». He also noted that «the calls of the muezzins sounded in Israel long before racist remarks Netanyahu government, and will sound in the future.»
